“Miss Intention” highlights the injustices many students, particularly Black girls, face with punitive and oppressive school environments and offers a powerful alternative:

This video kicks off our #IntentionNotDetention campaign to establish Intention Rooms™ as designated alternatives to in-school suspensions. A student entering the Intention Room finds a safe, trauma-informed space and welcoming Intention Room facilitator to guide them to access the evidence-based strategies that would benefit them most; from restorative justice circles, mindfulness based stress reduction, art and music therapy, to workshops to enhance social emotional literacy. Through the Intention Room students can identify the root causes of their behavioral challenges, define solutions, and create meaningful action plans to shift how they move forward throughout their lives.
“Miss Intention” was Produced by One Common Unity, a Washington, DC based nonprofit dedicated to breaking cycles of violence and building compassionate, healthy communities through the transformative power of music, arts, and peace education. OneCommonUnity.org
