In 2017, PSSI also began to awaken women’s soccer from sleep and continue to develop it. Moreover, PSSI encourages the development of youth soccer by creating continuity between the realm of amateur competition, youth competition, and elite competition in Indonesia.
In September 2019, PSSI officially submits the Indonesia bid as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2021, and Indonesia competed with Peru, Brazil, and three Arab countries (Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates).
With the prayers, efforts, supports, and cooperation of all parties especially Indonesian football fans. On 24 October 2019, Indonesia was officially chosen to host the 2021 FIFA U-20 World Cup. It was officially announced by the President of FIFA, Mr. Gianni Infantino in Shanghai, China. But, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event is canceled and will be held in 2023.
