Brass in Concert
I Live Directed the Brass in Concert event for around 5 years at The Sage, Gateshead. This was a two day event with live coverage for direct DVD sale, webcasting and live screen relay. The event was a combination of a gala concert and competition. The gala concert usually saw me with a score reader, reading musical scores I marked up ahead of the event, and the competition was a case of following the action.
DMLL Expo – Coventry University
I covered several learning events for Coventry University for live webcast to other locations on site and for remote participation over the internet. The space was small but we managed to use an operated camera plus a locked off camera and GoPro for a reverse shot. The presentations were integrated into the mix, along with videos shown during the event.
This was a big event in the DLI calendar, with their reunion taking place in the fabulous setting of Durham Cathedral. The live coverage was used primarily for overflow venue on palace green via a fibre link, it was also webcast and used for DVD resale. As the event took place across a large part of the Cathedral we made use of two operated cameras, two remote cameras in the Chancel and Sanctuary for minimum XX and a roving wireless camera to capture action as it moved around the Cathedral. Making use of a running order I had pre-planned many shots and sequences ahead of the event and during the rehearsal the day before.
European Brass Band Championships
One of the most prestigious events in the brass banding calendar. I covered the EBBC for 10 years, 5 of which as a Live Video Director. Here is an excerpt from a symphony by Black Dyke Band performed as their own choice piece for the competition. Here I had a score reader with pre-marked score. We had 3 operated cameras and 1 locked off camera. The live coverage was webcast and also used for DVD resale.
