It is really in our favor when it looks like the odds are against us. God loves to save us out of difficult situations. Many times they are overwhelming odds from the world’s point of view, but God can save us.

All the way through the Bible it seemed that God’s people were out-numbered and out-armed. All the beast kingdoms that came against them God conquered. And we fight against our own ‘beasts’, the giants in our land, which is our self; our carnal man, but God promises us victory if we turn our faith towards Him and don’t walk by sight.

God’s given our spiritual man the victory over our carnal man. The Israelites were given victory over the Canaanites as God promised they would rule that land, and take their houses. Of course, we are the ‘house’ that our spiritual man lives in and is supposed to rule over.

Our flesh nature is very much against our spirit man. The old man of the flesh is the body of the beast. Flesh and blood shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Cor. 15:50 says, “Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.”

The flesh wars against the spirit and spirit against the flesh, so there’s a war going on. Gal. 5:17.

These giants which the Israelites couldn’t take represent the overwhelming odds. Many modern day preachers are still telling Christians that they can’t take or overcome these giants in their own lives.

The old man doesn’t want to go to the cross and we can’t conquer the flesh on our own, but the Lord can work it in us as we exercise faith. Phil.2:13, “For it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”

The apostle Paul was a well known man in the world and in his religion. He understood that the flesh man had to die. He had to conquer his old man. Phil. 3:3, “For we are the circumcision who worship by the Spirit of God, and glory in Christ Jesus, have no confidence in the flesh.”

The circumcision was a symbol of the cutting off of the flesh. Gal. 6:7, “for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” So the Lord came to basically cut off the flesh and so we only sow a good seed and reap a good reward.

Circumcision is the New Testament symbol of baptism and of death of the old man.

The Lord will give us the power to overcome the giants in our lives, and to overcome sin and our flesh. We must deny our flesh, reckon it dead and take up our cross. We become righteous by our faith and not our self-works.

Join brother David Eells as he shows us in scriptures that it is God’s Power that is made perfect in our weakness, when we can’t bring anything to pass on our own. We give God the faith and He brings it to pass; He gives us the power to overcome.

Are the odds against you? That’s good. Because that’s when we will see the power of the Lord.

As we’ve been discovering in our series, from a worldly point of view, if the odds seem to be against you then that is in your favor in the kingdom of God.

Because God’s power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

We’re constantly put in positions of weakness by God so that He can be our only Savior and so that we would turn our faith totally upon him and not in anything of this world.

Jeremiah 17:5 “Thus saith Jehovah: Cursed is the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from Jehovah.”

The righteous shall live from faith. Hebrews 10:38 “But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.”

Over and over in the scriptures we find the Lord putting His people in these situations. In our natural life when we see what appears to be, “the odds against us” we begin to lose faith and yet we’re seeing from scripture this is when God does the miracles for us. So He wants to be your provider in all things!

Join brother David Eells as he takes you through scripture in this 9 part series, “Having Faith Against the Odds” to show you how to have faith in spite of the odds coming against you.
