Constructed using domestic materials such as quilting fabrics, yarn and vacuum tubing, this piece also draws from the realms of science fiction & fantasy. Imagine the feeling of comfort derived from wrapping yourself in an oversized quilt to escape into the fictional world of a new novel. What if you were able to melt into that story, transforming the blanket with you?

As with much of my work Domestic Armor explores concepts of identity and self-image. My intention is to evoke feelings of both wonder and discomfort through the juxtaposition of the familiar with the futuristic/fantastic, creating a kind of soft armor not completely unlike the clothing we choose to wear each day.
