A younger sister calls forth her older sister from death, as the two sisters are lured into a link between the earthly and heavenly realms. Blending realistic and abstract gesture, combined with a layered video environment, VEIL becomes an enchanting poem, taking the audience through the sisters’ tenacious dream of connection. Country music calls forth a mysterious chorus of three, bringing their gentle and persistant support to the sisters’ journey. VEIL further opens when community workshop participants join the ending ritual.
Accompanying the performance was a series of four creative movement workshops, having a focus on forgiveness. Free and open to the public, artists from a variety of fields were drawn to the sessions. Four participants joined the performance: Hector Canonge, Debby Karpel, Jahmani Perry, Zigi Lowenberg.
‘VEIL: Two Sisters’ is made possible in part with public funds from Creative Engagement, supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by LMCC.
